Myelin is the fatty insulating layer that wraps peripheral nerves. Think of it as the insulation around an electrical cable — without it, signals leak, slow, and arrive distorted.

Why CIPN affects myelin

Certain chemotherapy agents disrupt the cells that produce and maintain myelin. The result can be slowed nerve conduction and distorted sensation — exactly the tingling, burning, and numbness CIPN patients describe.
