Every nerve cell is wrapped in a fatty membrane. The composition of that membrane — and of the myelin that insulates it — depends on the fatty acids available to the body.
Why specific fatty acids matter
Not all fatty acids are interchangeable. Specific fatty acids are structural components of neuronal membranes and are relevant to the lipid biology of myelin. This biological role does not by itself demonstrate a clinical outcome.
