Building blocks of nerves
Every nerve cell is wrapped in a fatty membrane. The composition of that membrane — and of the myelin that insulates it — depends on the fatty acids available to the body.
Why specific fatty acids matter
Not all fatty acids are interchangeable. Specific ones are structurally important to nerve membranes and to the lipid bilayer of myelin. Their availability supports the body's ongoing maintenance and repair of nerve tissue.
